Introduction

These online lessons are designed for beginners who wish to learn basic vocabulary and daily conversation. It is recommended that you try to remember Chinese writing first before you start learning the conversation as every single Chinese word has unique writing and the only way to learn is to memorise each word and its pronunciation. However, It is also your choice to begin learning "Pin Yin", which uses English alphabet to spell Chinese words so that their pronunciation can be figured out on your own.

To begin with PinYin, we need to know about the tones as they are used to determine whether a sentence is a question or a statement.

*There are totally 4 tones in Chinese language.

Chinese Tone

Tone Writing Description
1. ā Flat Tone
2. á Rising Tone
3. ǎ Falling-Rising Tone
4. à Falling Tone
